The Black Eyed Peas have helped raise nearly $US870,000 ($915,115) for
victims of the Chinese earthquake at a private charity concert in
Shanghai. Members of the band donated personal items, including a guitar, to a charity auction organised in conjunction with a private show, French spirits maker Pernod Ricard, which organised the event, said in a statement. "We fell in love with China and the Chinese people when we visited here before and so wanted to use tonight to do all we could to help the relief effort in the aftermath of the earthquake," band member will.i.am told the crowd. Originally the concert - which also featured Hong Kong singer Karen Mok - was planned as a promotional event, but after the May 12 earthquake in southwestern Sichuan province, the concert became a fundraiser. The company said a few hundred people were invited to the event. The proceeds will be added to the $US300,000 ($315,556)) already raised by Pernod Ricard for the Chinese Red Cross relief fund, the company said. Check a video about the concert.
